Renewable Energy: The term renewable energy means those energy solutions that can keep creating
energy without exhausting resources. There are currently 3 types of energy solutions that fall into this
category: Solar Energy, Hydro Energy and Wind Energy. What has brought us to the point of an "energy crisis"
is that non-renewable sources like oil, are not as widely plentiful as once beleived to be. There are varying
opinions related to this topic as there are many that believe there are no shortages of resources as opposed
to those that do? The point is that the cost of manufacturing and refining requirements is effecting the
prices for consumers on an ongoing basis.
Living on the grid vs. off the grid: There are a lot of considerations
related to this concept. First of all some level of comfort would need to be established that solar and/or
wind power would be able to supply the amount of energy you're consuming today. Assuming that was the case,
there is a tremendous amount of good that would come from not having to rely on public utilities.
Living off the grid helps you rely only on your resources and not the ones supplied by governments or corporations.
How often have you cursed when faced with a power outage in the midst of some important work or a party? Wouldn’t
you like to take charge of such factors affecting your life? With alternate power solutions, you can.
Things that may help save energy: If you have been stunned by large electricity bills
that you have been getting, here are some steps to try. You can help reduce your electricity bills by taking some action on your part.
Start with the room you are sitting in. If you were called away to another room or joined your family at the dining table,
would you just step out of the room without any concern for the electrical appliances in it? If you would just stop right
there and look around. Switch off all the appliances eventhough you might be back in a few minutes. Another area to consider
is what you perceive as an electronic appliance. You might shut off the television set, turn off the fan, but not the light bulb.
You need light, but not when you are leaving the room. What seems like a very small thing can help with the dreaded electric bill.
Smart Investment: By replacing your incandescent bulbs with
compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. These bulbs are a great power-saving investment, especially
over the long-term.
